Yemen Flag

The national flag of Yemen has three horizontal stripes of equal width. The top stripe is red, the middle stripe is white and the bottom stripe is black. The colors are traditional pan Arab colors. The red stripe symbolizes bloodshed for independence. The white stripe represents hope and the black stripe symbolizes the end to the country’s dark past.

The Yemen flag was officially adopted on May 22, 1990. That was the day that North Yemen and South Yemen joined to form one country. The three colors were on both countries’ flags before the union.

Yugoslavia (former) Flag

The flag of the former nation of Yugoslavia had three horizontal stripes of equal width. The colors from the top to the bottom were blue, white and red.

The country of Yugoslavia has been dissolved as of 2003.
